HELLO THERE!
I’m Guylaine, a bilingual pediatric sleep consultant and the founder of Nighty Night Sleep Consulting. With the help of my wonderful husband, TJ, we are raising two amazing and well-rested little ones: Finley and Wesley.
I AM OFTEN ASKED HOW I BECAME A PEDIATRIC SLEEP CONSULTANT. HERE’S MY STORY:
I have always been drawn to work that allows me to help and heal others, which led me to a career as a paramedic. In this field, I recognized my passion for helping others, and that I thrive under pressure and stress; however, the shift work schedule created sporadic sleep patterns, which affected my quality of sleep and by extension, my time awake. I wasn’t one of the lucky ones who could go from day to night shifts while avoiding sleep disruptions.
WHILE I LOVED MY PROFESSION, SLEEP IS CRITICAL, AND AS A RESULT, I MADE THE VERY DIFFICULT DECISION TO LEAVE MY CAREER AND FOCUS ON MY HEALTH AND WELL-BEING.
MY FIRST TASK WAS GETTING MY SLEEP BACK ON TRACK. FINALLY FEELING WELL-RESTED, I BEGAN THE GREATEST JOURNEY OF CARING FOR OTHERS UNDER STRESS: I BECAME A MOTHER.
Again, as most parents can relate, I suffered from sleep deprivation and it began to affect my physical and mental health – I had little energy, and I often felt depressed and anxious. I realized that if lack of sleep was causing me to feel so unwell, it must be having a similar effect on my daughter, who was up multiple times a night and not napping well during the day. At such a crucial stage of her development, I knew I had to do everything in my power to help her form healthy sleep habits.
THAT’S WHERE MY QUEST FOR UNDERSTANDING THE SCIENCE OF GOOD SLEEP STARTED.
I found myself applying for the Sleep Sense Sleep Consultants Certification program, and got accepted.
Shortly after I completed the program, I solved my daughter’s sleep issues and then went on to start Nighty Night Sleep Consulting. Now 2 years later, I am proud to say that I have successfully helped over 1000 families teach their little ones independent sleep skills.
I am so happy that I have found my way back to a career where I can help people live their healthiest and happiest lives, and find a balance between self and being a parent.
